If you smell gas, a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm sounds, or anyone may have symptoms of CO poisoning, leave first and call 911 from a safe place. Do not use switches, phones, or anything that could make a spark nearby. Then call your gas utility or propane company.
Suncoast repairs and installs Jandy gas pool heaters that run on natural gas or propane. We work at homes in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. Colin confirms the exact model and your address before he books the work. A Jandy heater may be linked to a pool control system or other equipment on the pad. When you call, tell Colin what else is there. Suncoast is an independent service company. We are not a Jandy authorized dealer, warranty center, or manufacturer-certified service provider.

Jandy repair: the heater and what it is connected to
When a Jandy heater stops heating, the cause can be in the heater, the water flow, the controls or the gas supply. If the display shows a message, read it word for word. If a pool control system runs the heater, tell Colin its name if you know it. He checks the setup on site, explains what he found, and gives you a price. Pool heater repair
Colin can look at how the heater connects to your controls. Set-up or repair of the control system itself is a separate question. Ask about it when you call.
Jandy replacement or new install: ask about controls first
Before a new heater goes in, check how it will connect to the controls you already have. That depends on the exact heater and control models. So no one should promise it from a name alone. Colin reviews the old heater, the controls, the gas supply and the pad before he quotes. Installation and replacement
Which Jandy heater do you have?
JXi, JXiQ and Hi-E2. On October 14, 2026, Jandy's pool heating page listed these gas heaters.
Older Jandy heaters: LXi, Legacy, Lite2, and LX/LT Low NOx. Jandy keeps these in its product archive.
Some older Lite2 heaters show the model and gas type only on a plate inside the cabinet. Jandy's Lite2 archive page has the manual. If you cannot see the plate from outside, leave it. Colin will read it on site.
What does a Jandy JXi or JXiQ message mean?
Jandy gas pool heaters in the JXi and JXiQ lines spell out messages in words. The two lines word some messages differently. For example, a JXi shows CHECK FLOW where a JXiQ shows CHECK H2O FLOW. So copy the exact words and the model. A message points to what the heater sensed. It does not prove which part failed. The message lookup below explains each message by model, with the manual page.
Questions for your technician: Is this a JXi or a JXiQ? Did the message come from the heater or from the control system?
Message lookup by model
Find your model, then your message. Each card gives the exact words, what they mean, what the manual checks, what you can safely note, and the page it comes from. A message is a clue. It does not prove which part failed. A call for heat is when the control asks the heater to warm the water. Lockout means the heater stops trying for a set time or until it is reset.
JXi 200, 260 and 400
A JXi stops after three failed tries to light. It tries again on its own after one hour.
CHECK FLOW
Fault
Applies to
JXi 200, 260 and 400
What it means
The heater did not get the signal it expects from its water pressure switch.
What the manual checks
Jandy lists several possible causes. The pump may be off or set too low, the pump pressure may be low, or the switch itself may have a fault. So the message alone does not prove the flow is low.
What you can safely note
Is the pump running? Is a variable-speed pump on a low setting? When was the filter last cleaned?
Technician's part
Switch checks and adjustments are technician work.
The JXiQ words some messages differently from the JXi. Copy the exact words and the model.
SERVICE REQUIRED light
Fault
Applies to
JXiQ 200, 260 and 400
What it means
Solid red means a fault is present. Flashing red means what Jandy calls a latching fault. The JXiQ manual uses that word for a hard lockout, such as after three failed tries to light.
What the manual checks
The light alone does not say which fault. Look for words on the display too.
What you can safely note
Note whether the red light is solid or flashing, and copy any words on the display.
The heater did not get the signal it expects from its gas pressure switch.
What the manual checks
Jandy's checks cover both the gas supply and the switch. Testing shows which one it is.
What you can safely note
If you smell gas, leave first and call from a safe place. If not, copy the screen exactly. The manual also uses the longer words LOW GAS SUPPLY PRESSURE.
The Hi-E2 has two temperature controls and a rotary switch, not a word display. There may be no message to copy. Note the model label and what the heater does.
Not listed? Your message may still be real. Do not borrow a meaning from another model. Write down the exact words and the full model, and give both to Colin.
Planning a new Jandy heater: questions to settle
These questions come from Jandy's JXi and JXiQ manuals. They show what the installer must check. They are not steps to do yourself. Gas, vent and wiring work belongs to a qualified installer, under local code.
Will it be fastened to the pad?
Jandy's JXi manual says that in Florida the heater must be fastened to the equipment pad to meet the Florida Building Code. Its anchor brackets are a separate kit, not standard.JXi manual (H0574300 Rev M), page 12
Where will it sit?
Jandy lists rules for an outdoor spot. They include a set distance from the pool edge, no deck or roof over it, distance from doors and windows, and no sprinkler spray or roof runoff.JXi manual (H0574300 Rev M), page 11
Natural gas or propane?
Jandy says each JXi is built for natural gas or propane, as its rating plate shows. It does not recommend changing a heater to another gas. If it must be done, only a licensed, qualified professional should do it, with Jandy's instructions and kit. The gas line is sized by model and fuel.JXi manual (H0574300 Rev M), page 21
Can a propane JXiQ take the place of a natural gas JXi?
Do not assume it can. Jandy's JXiQ manual lists the natural gas and propane versions on their own lines. It lists the propane version for outdoors or a covered shelter. It does not recommend putting the propane version indoors. It says to check that the rating plate matches the gas you have. It does not recommend changing a JXiQ to another gas. If that is ever needed, it leaves the job to a licensed, qualified professional working with Jandy. Before you choose, a qualified installer should match the rating plate, the gas line and the site.JXiQ manual (H0780200 Rev G), pages 5 and 22
If it uses propane, will it be indoors or in a low spot?
Jandy says indoor installation is not recommended for propane heaters. It also says not to put propane heaters in pits or other closed-in low areas.JXi manual (H0574300 Rev M), pages 6 and 23
Will a pool control system run it?
With an RS-485 smart connection, the outside controller runs the heater and the heater's own panel is turned off. A 2-wire or 3-wire remote hookup works differently. Name the control system, and how it connects if you know, when you call.JXi manual (H0574300 Rev M), pages 34, 35 and 38
How is the water balanced?
Jandy says high pH with poorly kept calcium and alkalinity can coat the heater's copper tubes. Ask how your water care fits the heater you choose.JXi manual (H0574300 Rev M), page 42
Safety first, then photos
If you smell gas, see smoke or fire, or think carbon monoxide is possible, do not stay to take photos. Move everyone away. Then call from a safe place. If you see smoke or fire, call 911. If carbon monoxide is possible, get to fresh air and call 911. If you smell gas and the heater uses natural gas, call 911 and your gas utility. If you smell gas and the heater uses propane, call your propane company, or 911 or the fire department.
When none of that applies, send a wide photo of the heater and the equipment near it. Then send a close photo of any outside label or display. Give the fuel only if a label states it. Keep covers on.
What a repair visit costs
A repair visit is a service call. You hear the fee before the visit. It pays for Colin's first hour of on-site checking and testing. It is due even if you turn down the repair. After that you get a total-price quote, good for 15 days from the date it is issued. No repair or installation work starts until you approve that price. Full fee and quote rules

Sources and limits
The message lookup and install planning notes above come from these manufacturer manuals. Each card and answer names its manual and page. The manual copies used here were retrieved on the date shown. A manufacturer can change a manual later, so check the manual for your own heater too.
